I remember this feeling from when I was a kid. I still worry about my friends moving away and forgetting me. This book would have been wonderful to read as a kid, and I cannot wait to put it in my personal library to read to my children in the future.

Moving is always an emotional experience especially when you're leaving behind your very best friend. Evelyn Del Rey is Moving Away is a beautiful, emotional story about friendship and change accompanied by vibrant, textured illustrations that convey joy and sadness from fun adventures to a tearful goodbye.

This is the love letter to BFFs everywhere! Having to say goodbye to a friend who has to move away is never easy but Meg Medina helps us recall those moments where we thought we’d lose our friends forever. Those moments where you play as long as you can to stretch the time you have together. Loved this book!

Two childhood best friends are devastated when they realize that one, Evelyn, is moving away. Evelyn and her best friend live in a very diverse apartment complex and have become best friends even though they are from different backgrounds. The pair spend Evelyn’s last day saying goodbye to others in the building, but the focus is really on the narrator wanting to keep her friend around. Evelyn inevitably has to leave. However, there is a happy ending.

This book was recommended to me by a friend and tackled unexpected themes. Children moving is common, and happens, and this book seems like a great way to help explore emotions of loss of a friend with children. What was unique was that everyone in the book represented a different diverse background – it was just a nice added touch that made the book stand out.
