Wow. This book was incredible. I took my time with it because I didn’t want it to end! Who knew I could cry over a PLANT?!

Love Grady Hendrix, was slightly underwhelmed by the ending arc; but that DEFINITELY wouldn't stop me from reading this again. There was amazing twists illustrated vividly from Lynette's perspective.

This book feels like you’re running away from a serial killer.

2.5 - 3 stars.

I really wanted to like this one. The premise was good and after a rocky start it was moving along fine. The scenes of the girls moaning and sniping at each other really didn't work for me. After a while ~I began to not like any characters.
After that, the main story kicked in. The lead characters routines and how she deals with being a Final Girl were interesting but after a while seemed a little overused. I thought' I get it, she is cautious'
At about 75% I was ready for the book to be over. Maybe its because I spaced it over 5 days but it really dragged for me. Ultimately I finished because I didn't want to DNF it.

This is one of those occasions where I don't necessarily completely blame the book, maybe I wasn't in the right mood.

I can quite easily see others really enjoying this one.

I went into reading this book with very high expectations and they were somewhat met but I also left the book feeling like something was missing. My true rating would probably be a 3.5/5 but I rounded up. The idea of "Final Girls" is something we are familiar with from horror movies and in this book it follows final girl Lynette and a support group that she is in other final girls. If you have read Final Girls by Riley Sager I found the premise very similar but I liked this book better. The basic idea is that someone is trying to take out the members of this final girl support group. For me I feel like I had a lot of questions by the end. For 1: Dr. Carol is supposed to be treating this group but to me she didn't seem very effective at her job. And 2: I wished we got a little more insight to the events that lead to each of these women becoming final girls, especially Chrissy and Heather. Aside from that I thought the twists were interesting and SPOILERS I didn't expect Stephanie and Skye to be working together, I thought the final twist was going to be that it was Stephanie alone. Again Skye's involvement made me question Dr. Carol's capabilities as a therapist but I suppose that doesn't matter. I thought there were interesting themes touched on in this book regarding how the media treats trauma of real people and the tendency to forget that the people involved in these traumatic events are real people. Additionally I thought there were interesting undertones of misogyny and racism in horror and the lack of diversity we see in horror movies. I find this worth mentioning but didn't feel like they were developed enough to be truly considered major themes. Anyways I overall enjoyed this book and read it in one sitting. If you like thrillers, mysteries, or horror I would recommend reading this book. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be but that may be partly my fault with going in with such high expectations.
