Fun read but the plot feels very dry rushed and could have been slowed down. Definitely am interested in reading the novelization in there is one though!

Beautiful illustrations and an equally beautiful plot. His cloaks are gorgeous. It helps that I adore curls on guys, really lures me in.

Fantastic graphic novel, really, twists and turns, good humour and it amused me to know that she was a Jinx lmao.

Great story.

The premise for this was really interesting, and I’ll admit, it was the cover that drew me in. I love high fantasy magic stories, and had high hopes for this one…

And then I learned that the main character is only 14. A baby. A child. And her wizard companion is also a 15 y/o baby child. Sadly, the characters do not look their age. It’s got some real Pokémon vibes. But the idea of great adventure at age 14 that works so well for Pokémon, just doesn’t work here.

The story itself is cute, but the pacing is definitely off. I realized part way through that it’s an adaptation from a novel, so I’m sure the pacing is better in the original, but it was kinda messy here. Story beats either came at an odd pace, or just didn’t make sense. I often felt like I wasn’t working with all the information, but not in the good way that creates suspense. I can understand how it’s hard to fit everything in from a written novel into a thin little graphic novel, but I would have preferred a thicker read with more context.

The concept of a magic weaver and the idea behind Syd’s abilities (even with the plot twist that felt way too rushed at the end) is a really interesting one. I just wish the execution had been a little better. Still, I did enjoy myself though most of the story, so I suppose I’m being harsher than needed. It was an alright read, what more can I say.

I enjoyed this but didn't love it. The character development was lacking, like I felt like I was either reading a follow up in a series or I was missing something.
