How the King of Elfhame learned to hate stories was a quick, enjoyable read for me. I enjoyed having the story told through the narrator i.e. Cardan, because the events in the book help humanise Cardan and illustrates to the reader why Cardan turned out the way he did. Furthermore, the story theme that is repeated throughout the book was also interesting. Moreover, the book includes colourful illustrations that help the reader visualise certain events and characters. I do not have any complaints in regard to How the King of Elfhame learned to hate stories and would recommend it for any reader who enjoyed reading The Folk of the air series and wants to get more background on Cardan’s character.

Such a nice little addition to a series i have increasingly grown to love.

Cardan’s pov provides a greater insight to his past and also things that have happened in the original trilogy. Perhaps my favourite part was him taking only a singular bite of different flavoured dumplings and putting it back and Oak calling him out for it (I did too, never do that again Cardan PLEASE)

I did love how he changed the story of the boy with a stone heart and the monster bride to reflect him and Jude’s relationship.

Most of all I really just fucking loved reading about their little domestic marriage life in the mortal world.

I want nothing short of pure happiness for Cardan after getting a bit more insight on his past. And that happiness just happens to come in the form of Jude 💗🫶

Cute collection of stories from a different perspective of Elflame, but I would have loved just a bit more insight or for the book to have the same style as the trilogy. I enjoyed them, but was more indifferent to them than I would have hoped. Didn't get the same thrill/emotional pull. I guess I just expected more out it.
