The shadow of the Bloody-Nine looms over this book...

There's a really fascinating concept here - can you tell a big battle from multiple small perspectives, showing the consequences of 'small people' on a battle - and it's great to see some of the minor side characters from The First Law expanded on here (particularly Gorst and Calder)...but it's just kinda messy and you really struggle to latch on to anyone or anything because the point is no one and nothing matters in war...
Look, it's an objectively well-written book with beautiful prose but, as a reader who is drawn more to characters and plots rather than concepts and vibes, it just didn't really do much for me!
