Gosh I absolutely loved this one! Couldn’t put it down. I listened to the audiobook alongside and Pacey did a magnificent job (as per usual)

Abercrombie does it again. Just effortlessly brings phenomenally flawed characters though great story telling. He brings forward characters who have sat in the background for several books and turns them into main character energy and gives them great depth while others take their turn to sit back.

After delivering a near perfect revenge story in Best Served Cold Abercrombie delivers a near perfect war novel with this one. The Heroes was the book I was most concerned about from Abercrombies series and I actually enjoyed it a lot!
I don’t have major negative things to say about it. It’s highly entertaining, well done and quite intense. There isn’t a dull moment. It improves on some things I didn’t like very much in previous Abercrombie books, mostly in The Last Argument of Kings: The plays with the quick PoV shifts were actually a lot of fun this time. And, although this novel is entirely about a big battle and some drama around it, I didn‘t mind the constant fighting. The novel is about soldiers and treats the topics well I’d say. It was fun trying to keep up with the characters and maps. Again great characters, great simple readable prose and good pacing. The there-are-no-good-guys trope is again well executed.
Abercrombie is shaping up to become one of my favourite authors and I can‘t wait to continue the series.
