Really enjoyed this thriller because it felt like Room meets Gone Girl. Reading thrillers like this can be hard though because it reminds me how evil and sick people in this world can be

“Do you know what it sounds like when you bash someone’s head in? It’s like dropping a watermelon on to the floor. BAM!”
Wow! Dear Child is one of the most chilling psychological thrillers I’ve read in a while. The reality of this happening was at the forefront of my mind the entire time.
Super Short Synopsis: Lena Beck has been missing for 14 years. In a hospital nearby, a woman is brought in with her daughter after being hit by a car. From there, a series of events unfold that uncover who the woman is, if the girl is truly her daughter, who the monster is, and what actually happened to Lena.
I knew nothing about this book, but I saw @crimebythebook mention it and I was intrigued. But in no way did her post prepare me for the harrowing journey to come.
This book is brilliant, intense, dark, gripping and also terrifying. Told in multiple POV’s this is truly a page-turner. I couldn’t put it down as I needed to what was happening. The characters are really well developed and you’re instinctively suspicious of everyone. I recommend going into this one as blind as possible to fully enjoy all the dark twists and turns.
Romy Hausmann is a new author for me, and I will definitely be looking for more from her in the future.

I was sucked into the first 1/3 of this story but then I somehow lost interest. The concept is fascinating and the characters were very developed but I just struggled to connect.
I received this book from NetGalley to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Welp, every time I stopped reading this at work (and that was a lot), I would turn to my co-worker and say "OMG, this story is getting darker and weirder" and it was TRUE. I have read both "Gone Girl" and "Room" and I can definitely see the comparisons. Unreliable narrators (yes, there are 3 and they all have something to hide), a totally creepy plot, and just.....pulls you into the story. Highly recommended! Can't wait for our Mystery Book Club to discuss this one (10/12/22 at Books Are Awesome in Parker, CO).
