This was a hot mess.  But I did hang in and read it all. There were some funny lines, but overall I didn't connect, I'm still not totally sure what Metice's secrets are (
slave trader?  And all those demons trying to kill her were just messangers from the boss trying to get him to get back on the slave trading job? And he knew she was his soulmate before they met, and knew she was alien? Ok, I guess that's enough
) anyway, the sex scenes felt really random (
and enough about his go-go-gadget rotating cock
) and
rainbow dog poo that smells like apricots?
  sigh.

This was fun, but it gets heavy with reasonable quickness. Down on her luck with dating and feeling over the hill, Rayna decides it can't hurt if she tries the 'spell' in one of her books to summon a boyfriend.  Little does she know, Metice is fated to be hers and comes when summoned. She thinks their first night was a drunken dream, but it was so much more. When a jealous ex catches wind of things, Rayna will have to learn things about herself and Metice's world at warp speed to stay safe and fight for her man.

Full Rating (out of 10 possible): 8.714 (based on a modified CAWPILE system)
Romance level (out of 5 possible): 4 (for on-page, detailed intimacy scenes)

I'm trying to leave a review that doesn't just include everything I didn't like. I'm giving it three, so I definitely liked it enough.

I liked that Rayna is a grown woman but I didn't like some of the dialogue because it came off like someone younger. I liked Metice, but their bantering got old after a while. I'm still not sure how I feel about this power tool he has, and good Lord did they roll around a lot. They change positions so much in one session and given the scenes aren't the most detailed/lengthy, the way I'm reading it, they are only going at it for 3-5 minutes.

I felt like her powers coming in came in too late. I knew they were coming, and I love the awakening of powers trope, but when I saw how much of the book was left, I was concerned the speed the story was going to go. There was enough for something to happen, but not enough for her to learn her powers. So they pulled a Matrix...a reference literally made for this situation.
"Have you watched that Matrix movie in your world? Such a good one. The way they download data into their mind? I can do that for you. For your power."

This book wasn't horrible or even bad. Just had flaws, I feel it had more potential if the pacing was slightly different.
