Oh wow, this is really dark. And gory. Check the TWs, I can see why this is not YA even though the main characters are high schoolers. 

There are a lot of similarities to Hunger Games (obviously) but BR focuses a lot more on the individual characters, their background and their inner turmoil. I was honestly quite impressed with the author’s ability to create 42 unique and distinctive students that we meet throughout the story. I found it hard to put the book down.

My only complaint is with how stereotypical the female students were portrayed. They are often depicted as whimsical, hysterical, weak, having crushes… or they are killed off right away. Add to that various comments about so-and-so would have made a good wife and you get the gist. I would have liked at least one strong independent woman that had it together!

I was reading two different translations of this book in tandem, one on my phone and one a a physical copy. The people in the reviews complaining about poor translation/writing probably read the older translation, which I agree does read as more of a rough draft/ literal translation. The actual remastered version of this story was WOW. so so good. the writing was well done and still easy to understand, and the plot twists especially the end were crazy. lots of gore, but lots of fun.

Wow. I have never read so fast in my life. This book consumed my life completely. I still don't know how the author managed to help me keep track of over 42 characters, but I loved reading about every. Single. One. 

I was worried this book would just be violence for the sake of it, but the thought experiments and human relationships and friendships shown throughout gave it so much to digest.

It's got everything you could want and more! If you're not faint of heart and love a dystopia then I'd highly recommend it!
