I really love the idea behind this collection, and think it is amazing how many authors contributed to support independent booksellers!
I wish I had read it when it first came out, because it definitely does not feel nearly as relevant one year into the pandemic. The essays that lament being unable to see family and friends for 8 whole weeks take on a very strange sense when you have been quarantining for a year. The book also has a major theme of togetherness, written when most people were still observing strict COVID precautions. This also lands differently after so many people began prematurely pushing for business as usual.

Graphic: Death, Death of parent, Excrement, Grief, Medical content, and Terminal illness
Moderate: Racism
Minor: Police brutality
Some essays are pretty devastating, many are hopeful. It is a very mixed bag.katiepeach's review against another edition

Alone Together is a collection of essays and poetry that reflect on the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is incredibly powerful. I connected to so many of the pieces and I'm sure others will too. From grieving simple things we can no longer do like sitting in a coffee shop or finding the joy in small things like the scent of lavender to looking for the good in people and community many have been able to build from this crisis.
At times, I found that I did struggle to read it. Perhaps that's because the pandemic is ongoing and it often reminded me of the struggles we continue to face. However, I think this collection will be so important in the future as it describes the impact of the pandemic on our emotions, relationships, and day to day lives.
I received an eARC from the publisher via NetGalley.

I received a free ALC from Netgalley and Podium Audio in exchange for my honest review.
I think I might have preferred this more in the physical format as I would have preferred to consume it a few essays at a time as it felt really long on audio and sometimes dragged on. However, I did enjoy the essays and poetry, and I especially enjoyed the full cast narration in the audio version.
