The first part was amazing, 5 stars. The second part I found predictable and a bit cheesy. Over all I had a good time!

SpoilerI really wanted to like this one because of how many positive reviews I’ve seen of it from some of my favorite creators. It’s an incredible concept for a thriller - it was deeply terrifying. However, I found the characters to so cliché and was overall disappointed by the execution of the plot. Particularly the latter half of the book felt so far-fetched. The main character Rachel is a middle-aged woman going through an identity crisis following her divorce and cancer diagnosis and navigating single motherhood with a moody teenage daughter. Are authors ever going to retire this narrative? She divorces her hot-shot lawyer husband, and he proceeds to date a string of disturbingly-young, vapid blonde women. She then goes on to date his brother, which felt forced. It very much gave me the impression that she wasn’t complete until she found a man who, despite his glaring and alarming flaws, finally teaches her to love again. I would have much rather seen her save her daughter on her own and for that to be enough. The ex-husband’s brother is a veteran, struggling with addiction and if you ask me, was a little too eager to play storm trooper and take out anyone necessary. Someone should really look into him. I found his personality extremely alarming and the man was a walking red flag honestly.
