Love the characters from previous books in the Malory family series. I was glad we got to learn the story of the rumored gypsy grandmother. But the story was slow. I wasn't attached to any of them. Even familiar characters, like George, left me feeling like they weren't themselves.

Isn't this the one where one of the cute minor characters gets married off and acts like a prat about it when really blah blah blah but he's totally out of character and annoying and I hate when this happens in a SHORT STORY.

I'm not usually a fan of novellas but this one was quite sweet. I loved revisiting the whole lot of the Malory family. I also loved delving into the story of the mysterious grandmother that bestowed her black hair, blue eyes and magical tendencies to some of her descendants. I wished Christopher and Anastasia's story was a little bit longer. I understand it was to connect Jason and Molly's love story and Christopher and Anastasia's together and be a short read for the longtime fans of the Malory's, but I wanted more from Anastasia and Christopher! They had such cute moments but they were hindered by the fact that it occurred in such a short time! I didn't know as much about the main characters as I would have liked too, to connect with them on a deeper but I still loved the way the story was told, interwoven with the present day Malorys. I really did enjoy Ms. Lindsey's writing, she never fails to hook me in!

An easy Christmas read with plenty of Malory catch-up time, it didn't really feel like a complete story without reading all the other books up to this point, but I love the family so much it didn't bother me.

However, the backstory didn't interest me that much. I mostly just wanted more time with Amy & Warren, because we don't get them nearly enough in the other books - unlike the other three couples who we see a lot (thankfully!)
