Not my favourite book however the characters alone have hooked me on this series! The last 3 chapters sold me!

Overall I don’t think this was a bad book. It’s a hard, challenging, ugly book, but I don’t think it’s poorly written. I spent a long time struggling with what a horrible narrator Lily was, because she’s selfish and enabling herself and Lo constantly, but looking bad I understand that that was the point, and I think it tells the story in a realistic and more painful way.

this alternate cover I’m seeing here makes me understand why people might believe this is another erotic rom-com, but I’m really glad it isn’t written that way (poor marketing choice tho so I’m glad they changed the cover). I like that there’s no actual smutty scenes, and how the constant bombardment of sex talk from Lily became frustrating, because it really removes anything sexy from the story and shows just how miserable a sex addiction is.

The story was compelling and the characters were charming enough to keep me rooting for them until the end, and now I’m far more interested in the rest of the books than I thought I would be. While in the middle of the book I thought “shit I can’t do 4 more books of this” but seeing the support group that was built and the rock bottom the characters had to hit, I’m surprisingly hooked.

I don’t know if I’d recommend this book to other people, because it was rough to read, but I think it might prove to be worth it later on.

“No one told me you can love someone and still be miserable. How is that possible?”

i really did not expect this book to get me so emotional. this was a good, quick read in a fantasy burnout. but lily and lo i'm attached to them already, yes they're quite toxic and some of lily's inner monologues were a bit off-putting, but the angst of seeing them go through and try to get out of their struggles was a ride and hurt my heart. the sisters' bond though was something i loved so much, especially with rose at the resolution of this first book. i'm really looking forward to getting to rose and connor's books and their academic rivals dynamic!
