Put off reading this for years when I originally meant to read it in high school. Can safely say I still have no idea what it's about, and I don't care enough to keep trying.

Yeah the college aged character kissing a middle school character is a BIG NO for me. And that’s just the start of the pedophilia in this manga.

This has been one of my favorite titles since I first picked it up YEARS ago and it breaks my heart that it's still not complete. I decided to reread and I can't believe I missed so many details!! (Or perhaps it's because I'm older now that I'm picking up on certain details)

For a first volume, this book really packs quite the punch! There are so many mental health concerns with many of our characters and it's very tragic that even with each other they don't find solace. It shows how hard it is to be victims of mental and physical abuse, to have depression, suicidal thoughts, and to be in toxic relationships. But the part I feel is most powerful is the deliberate use of language and how that affects all of the characters. Sometimes people don't realize that their words hold so much impact when they do. Definitely will be discussing this book and series more on my blog!

Because of dark themes and the relationship between our main characters, this series may not be for everyone

I think this is the first manga volume I've ever read all the way through. It's odd. And a little queer, which I guess is good. Unfortunately, it's also a little confusing. I like the general idea, but in terms of actually getting to a story, this collection is lacking. Not sure if I want to continue reading it.

Twelve year old Ritsuka's brother has died. And the Ritsuka we get to meet only has memories from the past two years. He has forgotten the things that come before. There's a traumatic event is stopping him from remembering, but I'm not sure what it is. In the meantime, his mother is unforgiving. Constantly asking for her Ritsuka to return.

One day at his new school, a 20 year old stranger called Soubi shows up, claiming to know Ritsuka's brother, Seimei. Turns out they were a Fighter and Sacrifice unit. When Seimei died, Soubi became Ritsuka's fighter unit. (One person fights using spells, the other withstands the damage). Soubi and Ritsuka have a sort of love/hate relationship. It seems Soubi is gay, and I think he has a boyfriend, but he loves Ritsuka. Whether or not this is because he is bonded to him now as his fighter unit, I have no idea. It's odd. But they're investigating the murder of Ritsuka's brother's death now. Together. And they have to fight off a team who wants to take Ritsuka to the people who killed his brother.

Lastly, people who have not lost their virginity have the tails and ears of cats. Once those disappear, they are 'adults'. It took a while to understand that this was the case. And it was a little weird.

Who would I recommend this to? I'm not sure I know anyone who would read it. Maybe Melissa. But it's a little far out. And normally I dig far out. Still processing.

Can't get over the 6th grader x college student romance. Don't write about adults kissing children, thanks

I started to read this manga due to some scans I saw and it looked really interesting, so I didn't realize the main character is only twelve years old until I was halfway through the manga. And then I literally yelled: „What the hell is wrong with you, mangaka?“
I have no problem with relationships between two characters who differ in age, not even if one of them is underage, depending on the maturity of the teenager and as long as it's not too sexual. But twelve? In my opinion, Ritsuka is mature enough to make a fine sixteen year old boy, which would make the kissing a little bit less creepy. But having a twelve year old who acts like sixteen is still better than having a sixteen year old who acts like twelve...
I actually enjoy reading this manga, I'm through the first three volumes so far, but it does have a certain aspects that make it look... questionable on the surface.

Emo main character with family issues? Check.
Moe and Bishounen? Check.
In the world of Loveless, kids are born with ears and tails (because having a 12-year-old main character isn't cute and innocent enough), which they lose together with their virginity. Which can be funny... but who wouldn't want to live in that world, because then people have just another reason to make fun of you and call you names. Talking about people... I haven't found a character so far who's older than, say, thirty and all the guys look like girls. Made me wonder if girls in these world were born with full-developed breasts, because... no. Just look at Yuiko. Look at her bosom. And remember that she's just twelve.
Atomic boobs? Check.
Slight BDSM kink (Chains and whips)? Check.
Masochism and blood? Check.

Not that I mind the kink in general, it's just weird in combination with the cutesy kids running around. O___O
What I liked was that the author tried to break with the uke/seme cliche by turning both main characters into masochists and declaring the „fighter“ as the slave of the „sacrifice“ - is anyone else reminded of Kuroshitsuji? Yeah. Thought so. Except Kuroshitsuji is way more awesome, has a better plot and Ciel and Sebastian are, in a way, equals.

Damn. If Soubi wasn't so smoking hot, I would not even have considered reading the second volume. What's wrong with me?
