Yeah the college aged character kissing a middle school character is a BIG NO for me. And that’s just the start of the pedophilia in this manga.

Can't get over the 6th grader x college student romance. Don't write about adults kissing children, thanks

  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix

I..... don't know what to say about this.  I only remembered it because I saw a book with a similar title and I sometimes like to re-read manga from back in my "otaku" days. But good lord did I forget about what a nightmare this whole thing is.  The whole plot doesn't make sense and a character who could answer literally says "no comment" multiple times. There's this whole thing about people being born with cat ears and a tail but they lose them when they lose their virginity?  But that's never discussed really and it's not brought up until later.  Then you've got this weird magic system that only some people know about but others don't but there's never any explanation as to why some people can use it or how they end up with these pairings or names or whatever. But all of this pales in comparison to the weirdass relationship between a college student and a 6th grader despite the college student insisting that it's not sexual it's definitely portrayed that way.  I just.... the whole thing is poorly written and the added pedophilia is just a straight-up NOPE for me.  I think the book could have been really interesting there's a lot to work with - but YIKES over the relationship and writing.

This is a dark series. It does not explicitly come out and discuss the many themes that are prevalent until much later in the series but from the get-go you can tell the many dark situations these characters are going to face. To date the series is still not done and has dealt with various hiatus due to the author's poor health and other issues.
That said, while this story does deal with a character who experiences being loveless and the trauma of his home life the story really focuses on Ritsuka trying to find answers on who killed his beloved older brother while also dealing with amnesia to his own past. Thus enters Soubi who says his older brother made him promise to protect Ritsuka with his life.
Add in a mysterious organization, magic battles controlled between bound pairs who share the same name, human experimentation, the power of words, and a lot of triggering elements that will be listed below -this is a heartfelt, deep, and often times dark series where the innocent are so often the victims.
Also, when you become an adult *wink*wink* you lose your cat ears. That is an important fact to remember later on in the series. And, lastly -please note that all the content warnings below apply to the series overall and don't all involve the main characters but they will occur (sometimes on screen and sometimes off).
Merry, meet!
