This book is incredibly immersive! I was completely transported into the story, feeling like I was Wendy desperately trying to save myself and Danny from Jack's terror. Having not seen the film before reading the book, I'm genuinely glad I did it this way. The book is a masterpiece, and the film just doesn't do it justice. Definitely worth the read!

Immaculate. Some pacing issues, but so minimal. It feels like the pacing issues make the book that much better when the action and dread are occurring. It’s such a worthy read and holds up to this day.
I’ve read a lot of Stephen King and loved the movie so I finally gave this one a shot. It was fire (no pun intended haha) and it’s one of my favorites from him now. Literally my only complaint is that it doesn’t have the part in the movie where Jack freezes to death in the hedge maze just because that final shot is so eerie and iconic and it’s what I will always think of when someone mentions The Shining. But that’s not a valid complaint at all, so I’m not really counting it.

one of two books i read in between reading 'the stand'; i enjoyed this a lot, having seen the film before i liked how much more detailed it was and i can understand why people say it's far better (although i did prefer the ending of the film a lil bit more). not my favourite stephen king book but very glad ive read it! would recommend, and have already lent to my dad for him to read.
