Scary. Rich. Dark. Sad. Hopeful. I thought and felt all these things while reading this book. It's short, but it packs an emotional punch. There are some really scary parts and the monsters under your bed are very real, and very dangerous. I rather fell in love with the Hempstocks, and hope that one day, perhaps, Gaiman will write more about them.

Tossed my copy out when the news came out months ago, forgot to follow up here
Of the two Gaiman books that I've have read so far I enjoyed this one over the other. The story was easy to read and simple. Where the other book, The Graveyard Book, I had to keep coming back to it.
I will write a short review but I'm going to discuss the book with my book club first.
I read this book in one sitting just trying to get it over with because it was so scary. I had to have closer so I could put it down without it haunting me. The story is an original which I give the author total credit for and the magic was just expected, like it totally belonged there. The writing was stellar but I give it two stars for the creep factor. The incident with his Dad went way too far in my book.
