Very dreamlike. Straightforward plot that bleeds from one scene to another. Interesting perspective from a 7 year old boy. Witches who are more than witches.
4.5 - didnt absolutely go crazy over this as i thought i would, but wowsers! beautiful magical haunting . i wish i read this when i was 10 and i need to reread it when im 50
Fun fantasy book. Quick read. I started it as an audiobook which I enjoyed because it was read by the author.
I just wrote out my review in the “what do you think” box and it all disappeared when I clicked “finished.” Sigh. Anyway:
I thought this book was going to be scary like this German(?) flick I watched once upon a time where these kids were running from a monster that looked like a human. That is not entirely unlike what happened in this book except it ended up being so much more. More magic than horror. Not that I would call it horror at all now but thinking that it was gonna be like that movie really had me on the edge of my seat for the first half of the book. Touching, beautiful. I am so pleasantly surprised to have enjoyed it so much.
I picked this up because I started watching Neil Gaiman’s Masterclass. I am coming from this book with high praises and am eager to finish watching and read more of his works.

I honestly don’t know where to start with a review for this book. I just really enjoyed it! It’s creepy, beautifully written and every page you flip leaves you wanting for more!
