This series is a wonderful exploration of humanity while still being a great and thrilling read. Especially book 3 and 4 have shown why Brandon Sanderson is an excellent author - they really show his genius in writting. I also love how diverse the cast is, representing different ethnicities, genders, sexualites and mental illnesses. Sure, it is frusterating that they are not as well represented in the earlier books, but with this series it felt more like a natural part of getting to know the characters better, than anything else.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: The Stormlight Archives are my favorite of Brandon Sanderson's works. Re-reading the first three books and the novellas in the latter half of 2020 and then picking up RoW now, although I have some regrets (CLIFFHANGER!!!) really allowed me to see BSands' progression as an author. The CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. The MENTAL ILLNESS REP. The (improving) DISABILITY REP (we still have some work to do here). The COSMERE TIE-INS. I weep. And while this book was so very, very long, I did not begrudge him one single line. Especially those last 100 pages. Phew. I need a nap. 1 million points for Gryffinpuff.

This one took me a while to complete, but it was entirely worth it. While the pacing was a little slower than previous books in the series, especially in the beginning, the end 150 pages is packed with so many revelations and emotional surprises. It took me a long time to enjoy the Venli POV's but at the end, I definitely was reading them with as much interest as the other sections. I particularly enjoyed the character development of Kaladin and Shallan and their struggles at balancing who they are perceived as with the trauma that they are dealing with. In addition, I loved the added depth we got of Adolin's character, even if that storyline kind of was dropped toward the end of the book--here's hoping it will be picked up in the next one!
