In the adventures of Tom Sawyer, Huck was my favorite character and I expected to love this story even more than the first (which I did) but I really did struggled to get into the story until towards the end when Tom Sawyer was back in the picture. I think I just love their friendship and mischief and need them together to really keep my attention. I do really love Jim and how dearly he cares for Huck. I love that Huck found a friend in him in a world where that wasn’t how things were. I love how Huck questions the world and tries to determine right from wrong and just couldn’t make sense of it. I think it’s a good reminder that the law doesn’t equal right. Such a good lesson for kids (and adults) to learn. Will definitely be on my daughter’s reading list once she is old enough.

It was ok up until Tom Sawyer showed up then it was just punishment. This was a read-a-loud with my kids.

This book is a classic and I recommend this for people who like classics and Mark Twain.

This is not my favorite book by Twain, but it features many of the same characteristics as his other novels (hidden identity, happy ending). Huck Finn grows as a character and we can see his attitude shift towards Jim. The ending was good, and I am glad that characters got what they deserved. Although this may be hard to read for some, it is worth it in the end.

Found the racism too much. I started this after reading James, but I don’t need to read any more to see why his narrative is so powerful.
