A solid read, though a low note to end the trilogy on. I guess the dark & mysterious ending is in keeping with the setting though.

just! what a wild ride! now this was a real seat of the pants adventure. the first thing I said first chapter, first book, was I could see how eisenhorn was really being built up to fall, and boy has he. the problem is I really fell for the characters along the way :') I really appreciate their dedication and faith in eisenhorns vision, even by the end it starts to seem like people are forced through circumstance to accept necessary evils. and how evil will eisenhorn become? how far over the line will he go? I didn't realise when I started this trilogy that there's a fourth book in the series, but now I can't wait to find out more. this book felt infinitely more tense than the others, even if I knew eisenhorn was going to escape (because of the existence of book 4), he's on the run like never before and you really feel the paranoia along with the characters.
it does fall into the same shortcomings as the last book - an unfortunate speed up during the mid point that felt unearned. he's on the run from a complete mystery source, can trust literally no one, and then someone turns up with all the answers? I'm not saying I want an incredibly long slog of the team working through massive amounts of data, it just felt a little out of sorts with the rest of the book. like medea says earlier in the book, eisenhorm doesn't question why, he just takes the facts and runs with them.

The pacing at the end was weird but I really enjoyed this story, and thought it was a fine ending.
