I received this book via a Goodreads drawing, but that did not in any way influence my review. It did make me realize just how very much I prefer reading on my Kindle, but that is another story.

This story kept you guessing throughout, but not so much about the whodunnit. It was definitely more about why did this person do it and would the law please catch up with that and stop trying to pin things on the main character. I thought it was interesting that we found out relatively early who probably did it and there really wasn't much twist there.

I kept picturing Raylan Givens from Justified as the main character in this book. Because that's pretty much who he is. He cares about the law, but only up to a point. Does kind of make you wonder how he got in to law enforcement and stayed there for as long as he has. The judge, idk, I wasn't a huge fan of hers. She seemed like she'd gotten where she was just because of who she knew. Additionally, she was just a bit too goody goody for me. Which I guess maybe makes her realistic as a judge, but is never really going to make her one of my favorite characters. The lead detective. OMG. How cookie cutter small town police officer who just can't get over his prejudices. Actually, I found it very unlikely that he was as supportive as he was towards the end.

I liked the tv show Justified and this story definitely reminded me of that show, so I suppose I would read more of them. At least one. I would hope to see some development from the judge, the in-laws, and the small town cop or I would probably be out. The snippet at the back of the book for Sting looked interesting, so I would probably read that.

MEH! I thought the story was boring, and the sex scenes got WAY too graphic for me. The book was just a little too cheesy, and I didn't connect with any characters. I don't think this author is for me.

Fast paced, lots of twists and turns, funny and just a wee bit naughty, what's not to love. One of those exciting books that you don't want to put down. Perfect for snuggling up in bed with.

I enjoyed the book when I read it in 2016 and enjoyed Stephen Lang's narration of it in 2017.

*yawn* Easily forgettable since it's basically a generic crime/thriller novel, just different characters and situations. Nothing spectacular.

I enjoyed the suspense, but the romance was kind of meh for me in this one. I was also not a huge fan of this narrator for this audiobook. I’m sure he’s great for other books, but he didn’t fit for me in this one for some reason.
