I "read" this book in the form of an audiobook as I was on a long drive, and maybe that colors my review a little bit. I thought the book started well and the mystery was convincing and captivating for about 2/3 of the book, but towards the end it got a little more unbelievable and the final reveal/ending was disappointing after all the set up. Also the characters seemed a little too cookie-cutter for me to really enjoy hearing about them for so long, and I had a hard time getting past the man narrating the book using a soft "womanly" voice constantly for the main female character even when she was supposed to be angry or upset. So overall it was just ok.
I might give this one 3.5 stars; it was good, but not one of Brown's best.
Like a lot of other readers, I think the suspense in this was great. The romance aspect was only so-so to me. About 100 to 150 pages into the novel I started to lose interest some and almost picked up another book to read, but I ended up sticking with it. There's definitely a good story here, and you do want to read to find out who's involved and how, but for whatever reason, I didn't find this one as gripping as some of Brown's other novels. There were a few twists, but to me, nothing earth-shattering. Even the prologue, when it comes back up again in real time, isn't as exciting as you're made to feel at the start. I liked Crawford and I liked Holly, but I never got a true feeling of them being together, which is why I think the romance was only average. There was definitely sexual tension but I was never really convinced they connected on another level.

Texas Ranger Crawford Hunt, is in court to regain custody of his daughter. He gave her up to his in-laws, 4 years prior, after the death of his wife, as he was in no condition to raise her. While in Judge Holly Spencer’s courtroom for his hearing, a lone gunman enters the courtroom and starts shooting. The bailiff is shot and Ranger Hunt takes action to save Judge Holly Spencer’s life.
A suspect is soon apprehended but they have the wrong man. The real killer is still at large. Ranger Hunt must make a decision. Does he risk losing custody of his daughter to go after the real killer?
This is another good book by Ms. Brown. A suspenseful, fast moving storyline, with a true to life budding romance between Holly and Crawford. Friction is an overall enjoyable read.
I was given an ARC of FRICTION by NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for an honest review.

I always love Sandra Brown's books. Great action thriller with a nice bit of steamy romance thrown in there. I listened to the audio version of this one and it got quite heated a few times...whew! Looking forward to her next one.
Not my favorite Brown book, it got a bit slow in the middle. But by the end I was completely won over. Loved Crawford and Holly!
A very good mystery/thriller. The mystery kept me on my toes and kept me very interested in why everything was happening. The chemistry between Crawford and Holly was off the charts. I was so frustrated with Crawford's custody battle and with the way the investigation was going, but in a good way. The audio aspect was also pretty well done. Some of the character voices were a little off putting (Holly's took some getting used to), but I still enjoyed it and it definitely kept me going through work.
I listened to most of this book - great narrator. Holly and Crawford meet in a courtroom, she is the judge he is trying to gain custody of his daughter. A gunman enters the courtroom and fires shots...Crawford's week just got worse! The story moves at a pretty quick pace, with just a bit of romance thrown in along the way.
Exactly what I was in mood for.
Friction was fast paced, action packed, full of tension and loaded with jaw-dropping killer twists. Also, in classic Sandra Brown style the chemistry between the two main characters was absolutely sizzling.
In my humble opinion no one does romantic suspense like Sandra Brown and even though all her books are full of conspiracies, lies, secrets and betrayals every story feels fresh and her twists are consistently shocking and barely predictable.
Not to be missed if you're a romantic suspense reader.
