This is a book for those who think capitalism is good for society. It's a collection of short essays that will make you angry at things you were already angry at, but give you a new perspective on capitalism and politics. You think the top foundations that claim to support democracies have good motives? Read this if you think so (like I did).

The reason why I rated it 3 stars is because of the writing style. There's no build-up in the book, there's no coherent message other than "things are bad, people are bad".

Some very powerful ideas in every chapter. The first and last chapters were definitely the strongest. Lots of googling to cross reference and get some background info on companies / names / events mentioned that I'm not familiar with. Political prisoners, fasting activists, massive corporations, Kashmir history.
I love that the final portion is a list of demands for a more fair Indian society, to repair the colonial capitalist caste inequality.

Damn, this lady is pissed about capitalism. With good reason, to be sure, as she bitterly lays out the dark and dreary foundations of the world. Depressing stuff. Unless you're fabulously wealthy, and then I suppose the system is working as intended!

An exceptionally well written book. This was my first book about capitalism and I'm utterly ashamed that I didn't know the world I was so bluntly living. My only gripe with this book is that it's short. Ms. Roy should have spent more time on the counter ideas she shared and the possible short term consequences of those ideas. Other than that it's a must read especially for people living in Indo-pak region.
