Beauty

Beauty was very good in the way of description and character development. At times I could even picture the settings in my mind. However, the story did not move as fast as I would have liked it to. It's a short book as it is, so spending about a third of the book describing Beauty's life before the Beast was a little too much for me. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed the book and would read it again.

My go-to book as a teenager, this was frequently checked out of my local library. They no longer have that copy; I suppose it's time to purchase my own!

This was a very cute, happy read. My book club member who picked this one said it's her "comfort book," I definitely understand what she meant by that.

I will say I prefer this Beast to the Disney version. He's not ill-tempered or ill-mannered, he's quite the gentleman from the beginning.

My first critique is with the pacing. The exposition took about 50% of the book, so the rest of the story felt a little rushed, especially the ending.

I am also tired of the tradition wherein the heroine has to either be ugly or be oblivious to the fact that she is beautiful. This was especially annoying in a story where it's supposed to be "no wonder that her name means beauty."

Beauty and the Beast is my favourite fairy story so I was slightly reluctant to read this book, in case the story lost its magic.

Having read the author before and enjoyed her work immensely I started reading and have to say I am delighted I did.

The bones of the story stay the same, the beast lives cursed in his castle and along comes beauty to save him. Filled with trials they both have to face and learning to live within their own world's and both struggling find love with each other.

I found this book just as enchanting as the original.

As far as Beauty and the Beast retellings I do appreciate the level of consent that the Beast had and how the first quarter if not half of the book were simply just establishing the personality of beauty and her past and current situation. A fine story but not super interesting and the ending felt rushed compared to the rest of the book.

Beautifully written with a perfect fairy tale ending. How the Disney movie should have been.

I've never read the original, but this retelling was good, just not a primary interest of mine.

This was a fun retelling. It made me curious about the original fairytale and how this one differs. The end was kind of flat for me.
