A well-researched biography that addressees the quest of “Who was Martin Luther King”?  Using interviews of people close to him and newly declassified FBI files Eig provides a picture of the man whose birthday we honor every January.

While there is a single narrator, each person has distinct voice.  The baritone voice he uses for King transports readers to a speech or sermon.  The Nobel Prize and the anti-Vietnam War speeches are not known like the I Have a Dream but are equally as eloquent and enthralling.

The post March on Washington chapters of the book were informative.  These sections reveal how public opinion turned on King and the Civil Rights movement and its impact on his inner circle.

This was a long book. I had to fight the fatigue, but I could get through it because learned a lot from it.
