King: A Life

informative slow-paced

a full biography

Not only does this book contain Dr. King’s whole life, but it also is a great biography of the civil rights movement as a whole and those who supported it. This book proves that history repeats itself and why MLK’s work must still continue. Yes he was a flawed individual, the author does not shy away from detailing his moral failings, but he also did a lot of good for his country.

This was an excellent biography. Admittedly, not being American, I only knew the bare bones about MLK, but this certainly gave me a better picture of him and his radical gospel-centred vision. His understanding of the captivity and diminishment of the oppressed and the oppressors is something that is important to grasp for us today, especially in the face of competing political forces that tend to take a zero-sum outlook.
