What a book. Humanized and makes King relatable with flaws included, and only makes him more impressive for it. He was much more than the smoothed over, Cliff’s Notes version of a man or a movement that we got in Southern public schools. Would read again, or Eig’s Ali book.
This was a rough read for me. I know it was the point to show the humanity of all the people involved in the civil rights movement but at times it was hard to read. So much deceit from all sides. I’m glad I read it, but it wasn’t a pick me up kind of book

It’s been 41 years since a biography of King has been written and this is a tour de force. Here King is as complex, conflicted, heroic, and human as he truly was. Eig spent 6-7 years writing this work, and you feel it on every page. For a biography, it is a page-turner, like MLK’s life, I didn’t want it to end.
