I love it every time. It’s such a clever way to do the immortal story. Henry is such a loveable character with great depths but most of all I love the nuance of Luc and Addie. Their relationship and it’s obsession mixed with necessity is a masterpiece.

I secretly love characters that you kind of hate and getting the ending you didn’t want. Such a creative storyline and now I’m gonna get an elderly orange cat and name it Book

Dare I say this was a five star read for me.

Addie(Adeline) LaRue- Born 1691. 23 years old. Made a deal with Luc for time without limit. A life untethered. She would give her soul when she surrendered. (She makes the deal to get out of a marriage to some random guy her parents want her to marry.) Luc thought she would surrender quick because he twisted the curse so no one remembers her face after she has left from view. Addie is not able to write her name, take pictures, etc. She can’t leave a mark. Addie grows smarter with time and 300 years has given her a lot of time to learn. She can weave her existence into art/ music/ ideas. (It is really cool to see it all flourish). She marvels at the beauty of the world even when it doesn’t treat her kindly. She persevers/continues on for 300 years avoiding surrender.

Luc- A Shadow? Lucifer? A God of Darkness? Believes he is in love with Adeline.

Henry Strauss- Age: Late 20’s. Year is 2014. Works at a bookstore. Made a deal with Luc to be loved (Everyone sees him as whatever they want to see.) after proposing to a girl who said no. The deal was too much for Henry to bear, so he cut the deal from a lifetime to a year. Henry meets Addie when she steals a book from his store and tries to return it the next day. Henry is the only person that can remember Addie because Luc set him in her path (At first they think it’s because his curse counters hers). Henry also learns his curse has not effect on Adeline. Over the course of a few months Addie and Henry fall in love. Addie surrendered to Luc to set Henry free.

As much as I wish this book would continue I am very happy where it ended. I love a book that leaves you wondering.
