Loved this book! It plateaued a little for me at one point, but then it took right back off and sucked me back into the works of Addie LaRue. I’ve been recommending this book fairly often

I like this book, reeeally like it. BUT I don't love it the way I thought I would, when I decided to finally read it. The story is amazing, but it can get repetitive and boring at some point. It honestly did take me longer to finish this book, but then there were times when I couldn't put the book down.

SpoilerI couldn't connect with Henry. Like at all. Maybe he would be more interesting to me if he was an "ordinary" guy that remembered. But of course he had to have his own deal, it was obvious from the very start. It's just a "me" thing, but that was kinda the reason why I will not give it even 4 stars...

Addie, well she was 50/50. Sometimes I felt for her, sometimes I did not.

Now Luc, that's the exact opposite of my feelings towards Henry. I love Luc. Absolutely brilliant. My favorite character. I enjoyed every moment of him. I will absolutely reread this book just for him.

I listened to this book and I liked it, and liked the writing style, but I also sort of ended up wanting more.

DID NOT FINISH: 90%

Very slow, felt like the story wasn't moving anywhere even 400 pages in. Overall was just bored

Read up to Part 3, the writing of this book was beautiful but the plot and the characters weren't really grabbing me. I read some spoilers to see if it would motivate me to continue, and I was thoroughly disappointed by the direction of this book and the ending. Addie was written a bit too simplistic for my liking, and I did not enjoy the building dynamics between Addie and the darkness (
Luc
), the character dynamics between them were twisted and very toxic, and the ending just built off of that and went in a direction (
with Addie deciding to continue living with Luc as opposed to being with Henry and accepting that her freedom and living forever isn't actually freeing her, that growing responsibilities and death are a part of life, etc.
) that I wasn't expecting. If you're a big fan of
enemies to lovers (kind of?) and toxic relationships (and one where there isn't any obvious festering emotions underneath kind of toxic)
then this book may be more for you, but in this instance it came off as too toxic and not enough payoff for me to keep reading.
