This is a very interesting  introspective on what it means to be a reader, even a writer, in the framework of an adventure to track down a book, but I found the characters unlikable. They were very static characters that were put in situations they had no control over where someone or something else was always pulling the strings. Usually the plot moved forward due to some ridiculous lust or desire for the female character who was little more than an object for them to force their fragile egos on. The books they read were more interesting, though also ridiculously misogynistic, creating parallels with the themes of self in the main story, and were always frustratingly interrupted, though I suppose that was the point. And did the Reader learn anything at the end? I highly doubt it. Again, maybe that's the point. Me as the reader learns something, but the Reader does not, so in the end, I found this story very annoying, if very intriguing and thought provoking.
