This really is a dizzying experiment of a book. All those first parts of different stories made me feel like the Reader in the book often did: confused, lost and several times almost upset that I didn’t get to read the rest of a particular story, because some of those were really captivating! I did not like his portayal and treatment of the women in the book and some of the stories didn’t interest me, but overal I really enjoyed the strange setup and how self-aware and self-referential it got. A very interesting read!
Honestly do not know to feel, it's exactly what it promises to be and took me the better part of a year to get through (at a time when I read a book a day).

Ovviamente meraviglioso, non potevo aspettarmi niente di meno da Calvino. Un romanzo meta-letterario e un'esercizio di stile che contiene 10 primi capitoli di libri diversi, incorniciati in una storia raccontata in seconda persona singolare in cui si susseguono i pretesti per abbandonare la vecchia lettura e intraprenderne una nuova. Pieno di spunti interessanti di riflessione sulla lettura e sulla scrittura. Uno dei libri di Calvino che ho più amato fino ad ora.

ugh. this started off so well. i was super excited to read it but soon found out that it's ... different. a lot of different stories, characters, styles, moods. some stories were great, some absolutely lost me and made me skim the pages. at the end i was happy it was over. if it wouldn't have been for the bookclub i would have dnf'd it after 3 chapters.
