Ooohhh...this is a frustrating review to write.

I really liked the story.
Jimmy is the black sheep of his farming family, and ventures to New York to become a cop.
Enter in Ava; crime scene investigator. I didn't actually like her at first. She's really quite rude and obnoxious to her colleagues.

But as the story progresses she becomes a lot nicer.
There's gunfire, loss, a farm, sexy brothers, so much included.

I don't want to ruin the ending. But there's enough action to keep you reading.

So why didn't I give more stars?
It just needs a bit of spit 'n polish. Another edit would easily have me leaving a decent 4*.
It's not badly written. Just needs a bit of tidying up.

For a debut novel this was well written and the characters were likable (for the most part) and relatable. The only negative for me was that Zane appeared to just be grumpy and sour most of the time. I also felt he was a little hot headed and was almost verging on being abusive. All in all though, it does draw you in and you find yourself on a rollercoaster of emotions and I was almost brought to tears at several parts. The writing style needs to be refined, which is something that will come with experience, but for a first book, this is great.

*4.5
There was a death in the beginning. Even though we don't know the character, we still grieve along with them. It made me tear up multiple times. Grief is hard to deal with and the characters are trying their level best to cope with it. They talk, laugh, cry and create new memories. This is definitely going to be one of my favorites.

This was a very touching book. I got emotional reading this book a few times. I love books that make you feel something when you are reading them. This book is great and it was well written as well. * I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*

I bought this one a while ago and I’ve been meaning to read it as I’m a big fan of Siegrist. So I’m glad I could carve some time to read some of her earlier work that I hadn’t yet read.

Ava is a supervisor for the crime lab in NYC, and she considers herself one of the best crime scene investigators. Even if her meticulousness causes anxiety in some of the detectives, but not her best friend Jimmy. Ava was the one who showed him the ropes when he first made his dream of becoming a cop in NYC come true.

But when tragedy happens, Ava finds herself among Jimmy’s brothers, Austin and Zane. Zane never wanted his brother working in NYC, and because of an argument, neither had talked to the other for 6 months. Zane blamed Ava for a lot of things that he shouldn’t have. He’s known as a bit of a grouch, settled in his life on the farm Jimmy left behind.

Here we have two strong-willed characters in Zane and Ava, and they were bound to butt heads…spectacularly. I loved the characters in Protecting You, and I loved how Amanda brought them together. I went through a lot of tissues in the first quarter of the book, so have them ready, you will need them.

This was a heartwarming read. From the characters to the storyline, you find yourself drawn in from the start. I’m so glad I read this and I cannot wait to continue with the McCord storyline and see who else has love in their future.

Heartbreaking, wonderful.

Oh my gersh! (New habit, can't stop once I've started using a phrase)
The McCord brothers are so perfect. Ava's growth fro. The death of her best friend was probably the hardest part for me to read. The author does a wonderful job bringing the story together.
