- Being stealth isn't a silly thing old people do because they're scaredy cats, it is something many had to, and still have to, do to maintain their safety. To say otherwise diminishes very real trauma and active danger.
- "A femme" is not a stand-alone term, or at least not anymore, it modifies other things....those words don't work the way Lukoff seems to think they do. I wish he'd consulted any queer women in writing this book.
- Seattle isn't gay utopia
- You are very unlikely to all of a sudden like someone enough to start dating them when they come out, if you didn't like them before. Maybe consider being nice to people, not just "be nice cause they might be trans."
- General lack of nuance, EVERYWHERE.

The book shows issues queer and trans people can face but it also shows the joy which is just as important.

But, the characters are great and loveable. For the most part, Lukoff is great at nailing a middle grade voice throughout. The conversations in this book are also super important, and ones that I haven't seen in middle grade before. Especially between Annabelle and her parents. I hope people read it just for those relationships.
All in all, I do think this is an important addition to the middle grade LGBTQ+ market. And I hope we keep getting books like this!
