Ugh!!! The story wasn't that great, no hot nookie with either hot guy and she STILL HASN'T DECIDED!!!!!! Time to sack up and decide Stephanie! I'm bored with your business.
This book is hilarious- that pretty much covers it.
It's been well over three years since I've read Notorious Nineteen, this novel's predecessor, but everything is at it should be in Trenton, New Jersey - Stephanie is still awful at her job, the omnipresent love triangle is still cemented in place, Grandma Mazur has a new hair color, etc. There was a point at the beginning of this series where there was an overarching plotline from book-to-book, but the Stephanie Plum series has turned into nothing more than a sitcom. You're let off gently at the end of each novel in the same place you started, without any character development or dangling plot threads to get you excited about the next entry.
This isn't necessarily a bad thing - would anyone even be interested anymore if Stephanie decided to marry Morelli and/or became the best bounty hunter in the field? This series is entirely formulaic, but like any other sitcom, it's usually enough to keep me interested. However, Takedown Twenty feels phoned in from start to finish. There's no point bothering with a plot synopsis because it's everything we've seen before, but this time there's a giraffe walking around the streets of the Burg, and Stephanie goes and works at a butcher shop for a couple chapters to fill up pages. Other than that it's business as usual.
I don't remember a single thing about Nineteen other than really enjoying that novel's mystery plot, but Twenty was boring in most places - a term I typically don't associate with Janet Evanovich. The plot points lazily fall into place where you'd expect and the "get-out-of-jail-free" cards are omnipresent: Stephanie falls down the stairs and nearly breaks her nose with the end of a gun but is essentially fine the next day, brand new cars are destroyed and replaced same day, a team of Ranger's men are there any time Stephanie finds herself in life-threatening peril. There's no real sense of urgency to any of the mystery plots at play, and as such, Stephanie just bumbles her way into the story's climax without realizing it. I've long given up on character development and love triangle resolutions with this series, so a well-plotted mystery shouldn't be too much to ask for, but Takedown Twenty fails to deliver.

By now, you know what you are going to get with the Stephanie Plum novels, and this one is not very different from the others. I laughed out loud at one part and wondered if Stephanie would really change, and do I want her to change at all?
I read most of this on trains travelling between cities and it was the perfect novel for that. I enjoyed it, find that Evanovich is a writer that can get me out of a reading slump, and really, sometimes that is all you need. Liked it, had fun, and will pass it on to a friend for her amusement.

Same old same old. Glad I listened to this one instead of reading. I think I would have liked it less had I read it.

I immediately fell for Stephanie Plum ... how can you not! She is a train wreck with plenty of mascara, and a fantastic family! Can't wait for more adventures!
BTW ... I am TOTALLY Team Ranger! Also Lula is AMAZING ... we all need a Lula in our lives! I have decided I want to be adopted by the Plums so I can have a Grama Mazur!
I have read the first 22 as well as the In-Between the Plums stories and I am so ready for the next several!

I picked this up after like a 7 year break from this series. This book wasnt as funny as i remember the others being.
Meh... more of the same antics. Situations that only Stephanie Plum and Lula can get into. Old ladies were getting killed, Grandma Mazur was next. Stephanie is a klutz and ends up hurt. There's a fire. There's a giraffe running around but no one has seen it. Viewings at the funeral home, Bingo. And Grandma Bella put the eye on Stephanie, again. Stephanie still can't choose between Morelli and Ranger, but she's starting to feel more domestic. She won a crockpot at bingo and bought a vacuum cleaner.
Well to be honest, even if Stephanie Plum is one of my favorite series (and also one of my very first books as an "adult"), I thought that the last books were not as good as the previous: we get bored, the story went round and round in circles, I no longer laughed while reading it ... In short, it was not pretty.
Fortunately, this book was a pleasant surprise: there was action, mystery, humor ... and I totally loved Kevin =D
Only two regrets: the resolution of the case lacked spice and I'd have liked to see Ranger naked ... It's been far toooooo long since the last time ><
Anyway, a great book and I can't wait to read the next book =D
