This book started slow but once the story picked up the pace it didn’t stop until the very end. Definitely reminiscent of a SJM fae book but it’s own twist, plus much shorter so it’s a very easy read.

Our MMC, Asher, is a love/hate character. Lots of love but we have to know more. Few betrayals/potential betrayals of side characters so I feel like we are constantly wary about who we love in this book. I like the side characters a lot.
The FMC, Alys, is likable but she’s pretty similar to a lot of FMCs. Not annoyingly so, but her and her actions are pretty predictable.

Overall this was a good fae story, some originality and a lot of mystery to be explored in the next book. A nice quick read.

I have removed my original review. The author has plagiarized work and profited off of it and I refuse to support their work any further or provide positive feedback.

Ummm, honestly there is no way that I could try to describe this story with it sounding like A CARBON COPY of the “ACOTAR” series.

The best intro I can give is that the main character, Alyssandra, is a 22 year old women whose mother always told her “eccentric” stories of fae and mystical powers. Over the course of the book she finds there to be more truth to her mother’s words than she could have ever imagined.

The one thing that I did like about this book is the high fantasy/romance. With that being said I feel that the book is extremely rushed for it to be enemies to lovers and the first book of a series. I also say that, the fact that this book is relatively new and basically ALL the details have been taken from another book is very disrespectful and unprofessional(mind you Mrs. Maas published her series in 2015). The author didn’t try to hide it either; like having Alys being the mate of the high lord of the night court, Asher’s faery dust on her neck (that has the same ability as Ryhsand’s tattoo for Feyre), and more that I won't disclose for the sake of spoiling.

I will back off and say that with this specific type of fantasy, I can see how it would be harder to become more original. You’d have to have a solid plan to create and entire world from scratch; but that is the task that most authors love.

My final thoughts would be that Tiktok TOTALLY over-hyped this book. The smut was equivalent to stuff you see on Wattpad. It is not a slow burn at all; they fell in love in one month. I would say read it for yourself and come back to the blog and see if you can understand where everyone is coming from

Acomaf knockoff. Poorly written, lacking heart, way too fast paced. Didn’t take any time, I don’t even know what the main character looks like besides their height.

Alys is a mortal who is captured by Asher and taken to the fae realm. Asher is a broody, tortured fae King who took Alys to protect her from other fae courts who are hunting her. We find out she is part fae but her exact parentage and powers are unknown. Not surprisingly the tenacious, takes no shit Alys is drawn to the withdrawn Asher and he to her. Angst ensues and they fall for each other but the people hunting for Alys won’t stop.

Does this sound familiar? Yeah to me too. This felt like diet ACOTAR. I think there is something here and I genuinely enjoyed reading the book but everything felt reminiscent of books I have read before. It may have something to do with how short it was. Less than 200 KU pages. I don’t think it had enough time to build a world all its own. I will read the next one because cliffhangers get me every time but I wish this first book gave more.

I thought this book was pretty good. The trope is a pretty common theme I’ve read from many different authors. Our girl is raised as a human and suddenly thrown into the magical world and has to wait for her magic to awaken. She’s taken over by a party that wasn’t suppose to but wants to protect her. There’s the standard political pose where each party wants her for their own needs and beliefs of “family” and it’s up to her to decide where and who she wants to stand with, unless another party decides to take matters into their own hands. Overall this seemed like a good fantasy book with some added in heat to better draw in the two characters that it involved.
