Beautiful story with an important lesson about dealing with the repercussions of how our ancestors actions affect us, and how we can do right by the people affected by their actions told in an appropriate and child-friendly way

I love folklore and fairy tales and previously loved Sophie Anderson’s The House with Chicken Legs, so reading this was like coming home to a comforting and familiar world full of intriguing and wonder filled magic. The magic that filled this story was so utterly compelling and it’s what I wish everywhere was. I raced through this book, needing to read more and more just to find out what happened.

The plot was perfectly paced with tons of beautiful and imaginative description weaving through an utterly bewitching story. Olia, the narrator, was extremely likeable and I urged for her to succeed in her task. Similarly, the side characters were an absolute joy to read and I can’t see how anyone could not feel completely emotional, especially towards the end! A particular favourite was Felix (I love an animal companion) and I really enjoyed the support he gave to Olia.

A firm favourite and extremely compelling read!

I loved this book! Sophie Anderson has created a magical world with a charming, likeable and kind protagonist who is trying to save her family home. With the help of her new magical friends, Olia is determined to stop the wizard who is tearing apart her home as well as the home of her magical friends.

There is a lovely message throughout this book that if you believe in yourself you can do anything you put your mind to!

I loved this book, it was a quick read but full of interesting and complex characters and history. By the end of the book it felt like each story within had reached an ending, which was thoughtful and satisfying. This wasn't a typical tragic story leads to adventure, and the world created was beautiful. I think the theme of cherishing the world you live in, and seeing the world around you, for all of their complexities and beauty is something all ages of readers could value. I will be adding this to my list of recommendations for readers who like magic, adventure, and thoughtful characters.

Excellent for a genre I don't often read. I loved the message and I also loved Olia and her friends and the mistakes they made along the way!
