Lush, evocative, wistful and decadent; much like Fitzgerald's Gatsby, Waugh's novel concerns itself mostly with the distinctions of class and the status that cannot be bought.
Although a challenging book to get my teeth into at first, I was soon swept away by the intrigues and mysteries of the lives of the Flyte family. Combined with the masterful language and evocative imagery; this novel harkens back to a time where novels could progress.
