I read Sapiens, the source material for this graphic novel, a few years ago and enjoyed reading about the early history of humans. I thought Harari’s thoughts about the development of humanity were interesting and thought-provoking, and it left a lasting impression.
The graphic novel adaptation—being the first volume—focuses primarily on the cognitive revolution and offers a good blend of “this is what we know” with “here are some theories” on a myriad of topics—migration, culture, religion, art, artifacts, etc. There are a few fictional storylines throughout the book, in which the author is a character. This was maybe a bit cheesy at times but also serves as a framework for older readers to read with younger ones.
The next volume will be the agricultural revolution, which (along with this volume on the cognitive revolution) was my favorite section of the source, so I’m looking forward to reading it.
I would love to see Sapiens adapted into a documentary, but I enjoyed this graphic novel as a supplement to the original. I think it works well for an introduction to the topic, possibly for teens/preteens or as a read aloud with younger readers.

I read the original Sapiens some time ago, and this version in comic form follows the footsteps of the original book at the same time as it offers a much easier form to digest - especially younger readers might find it more appealing.

Might open up the content of Sapiens to people not really wanting to read, but I don't like how this book uses the effect of people lecturing about the content.
Too ambitious a project maybe, and seemingly an attempt to milk the cash cow of the Sapiens success.

Fun and informative read! Illustrated very well. I did skim some parts where it got wordy, but I feel like i’d pick up new info if I reread it.
Moderate: Genocide
Minor: Racism
I had always struggled with the OG version of Sapiens but was able to sail past this. Graphic novels are such a big relief. Quite a few myths broken.
