Chain of Gold takes its time introducing a captivating new cast of characters in London. The initial slow burn allows readers to grasp the dynamics within this diverse group. A mysterious threat emerges, forcing the Shadowhunters to unite and strategize.

This installment stands out within the series. While it maintains the core themes of strong bonds and a young generation facing challenges, it refreshingly avoids overused tropes like forbidden love and love triangles. Fans will still appreciate subtle references to The Infernal Devices without feeling overwhelmed.

If you are looking for the same emotional despair that the Infernal Devices was, it's not it. We have so many lovely characters, that we can't get that deep, it's also very clear from the start who belongs to whom that there is not much angst about it.
BUT the characters are all so charming, you can't not love them, you feel as a part of their little group. I would say the sweetest found family if they would not actually be almost all related in a way.

What the Last Hours did much better is the FMC. I know I'm in the minority here but I very much dislike Tessa Gray (with my whole heart), but I would protect Cordelia with my whole life from around page 10!
