Misogynistic asshole main character and not enough good side stories to make up for it. Interesting concept but I just couldn’t keep reading about Herc ruining people’s lives (graphically)

the author just told you everything that happened rather than show.
This was really good. She did an amazing job of making each different persons chapter narration have a different voice. I think I finally understand what an unreliable narrator is. I felt like she stayed true to the origins without going too crazy, kept the heart of them the same.
A book like this is so interesting. Looking at heroes from the eyes of the people around them. You start to really wonder if they were heroes at all. Maybe not villains, but just…a person.

Loved the premise and humor. The audiobook actors were great and I appreciate having different voices. It dragged on towards the end and felt a bit repetitive.

I struggled to get into this book for the first few chapters because there are so many POVs.
It's creatively written, and the language used is very modern. This threw me off a bit, mostly because I'm used to retellings not being very 'bro'.
I think I would have liked it more if we followed Hercules/Heracles instead of all these other people.
However, these other POVs do make you see the man behind the hero. Herc is a flawed, deeply flawed man. I like to think he also loved deeply. I do think that he was so full of himself that he liked to blame everything on the Gods. Hylas' pov did make me tear up. It showed me the man behind the myth, and I like that a lot.
I had fun reading this book, but at times it made me frustrated as well. Seemed to just go on and on at points. It was a good read, tho.

Amazing concept, poor execution.
Each male character and their perspectives just merged into one and provided very little to the story, however made up 80% of the book.
The women's perspectives were far more engaging and complex but so fleeting. (For example, I was so excited for Megara's story, only to discover it was about 5 pages long).
And I just could not stand the use of modern language ("fuck it", "alright cuz", "eejit") in a book that is set in Ancient Greece ??? It just took me right out of the story and was so jarring.
Also the author could not write a single sentence without interrupting themselves with parentheses which made it feel so disjointed to read.
