Big Hereditary vibes.

“You have something of mine, I passed on something of me to you, and hopefully it isn’t cursed, I don’t know if I can leave something that isn’t dirty, that isn’t dark, our share of night.”

“All fortunes are built on the suffering of others.”

“Please don’t leave me alone, haunt me.”

a bit late to review but this bloated corpse of a novel had me absolutely transfixed till the very end. Mariana Enríquez, like many of her fellow LatAm writers, has a gift for evoking so much grief and dread with her insane commitment to bringing imagined horrors into a chronology of real-world devastation.

This was so good and had so many different layers of horror to it: from the girl trapped in the mudslide, to the hand grabbing a boy in the dark, to the colonizing british cult who don't care who they destroy. All against a vivid background of history.
