1940's, America shown through three short stories - each based around conversations had with those close, highlighting tonal differences between these relationships. Details of society and setting are in the background but the forefront for me was Salinger's wit and dry humour which carried through these stories incredibly well.

Glibly speaking, this is interesting characters doing uninteresting things.

J. D. Salinger is considered one of the best authors and I don't deny that. He has this talent to bring to life his characters only by short dialogues. These three short stories are brilliant and I love this melancholy that all of his stories have. I feel like all of his characters represent members of society and I love how its very psychological and his characters' feelings are so well described.
