This book felt like watching a movie. A combination of historical fiction (1950s), mystery, and a bit of paranormal activity. Loved it!
Quiet housewife meets the Twilight Zone, with a deadly twist. Kennedy did a great job of bringing everything to life, especially the historical setting and dynamic between each of the characters. I had chills running down my spine each time Loretta had a vision, they were just so vivid. It also broke my heart to see how she was treated be her overly religious husband, but I also know those views weren't entirely left in the 50s. The tension is high right from the start, and the story moves along smoothly, even through what should be duller moments of everyday life. There's just a thread that keeps tugging you along, cover to cover. If you enjoy thrillers mixed with a bit of women's fiction and paranormal, then you're going to want to grab this one!
I’m always hesitant with books with paranormal elements as it can be very cheesy. I didn’t find it cheesy in this book at all which was refreshing. It had a lot of elements I enjoy in a thriller - unreliable narrator, small town, romance subplot. I did not care for the third person POV but it wasn’t horrible. I did call the killer so automatically knocks off a point and the husband was a chauvinist ass which I hated. But overall it was enjoyable and quick paced.

Ex-evangelicals/deconstructed kids, gather around. This is religious horror done so right. This was a tense, mysterious, oddly beautiful story of becoming and knowing oneself in a world that isn't made for you.

I really enjoyed this one. I had the bad guy figured out pretty much from the start, but that took nothing away from the story of Lorraine. It was a quick read that I would have finished in one sitting if I had no job and no responsibilities.
