Teaching tolerance and understanding with silverware. Who knew?

I liked the beginning when it looked like this book was going to be about inter-racial families, but then it didn't seem to go anywhere meaningful. Spork's attempts at "passing" as one or the other don't go over well with the rest of the silverware who actually get hostile toward him. Spork makes his way to the table and shows that he's useful, but is never actually accepted by his community. Eh. Felt unfinished and weak.

When you are Spork, you don't fit in with spoons or forks. Spork looks for way to fit in but finds out that being a spork may be the best thing. I really loved the illustrations in this book and would rate them 5 out of 5 stars. The story would be 3.5 - it is a cute story about being yourself.

A really super cute book about a spork that doesn't fit in. Loved the use of a spork as a metaphor for an exploration of cultural identity and acceptance.

A story of “multi-cutlery” to introduce children to multi-cultural families. Also introduces a new baby to a family’s habits so could be a good read for multiple life challenges.

This was so sweet. I read it while on the bus at work. I love all the illustrations & their uniqueness.
There’s a place in the world for you, it just might be unique too.

Cute! The drawings in this are adorable. Pity I didn't know about it two years ago, the reading level seems like it would have been appropriate for a first grade girl I used to tutor. The mixed race metaphor is a tad unsubtle but it is a picture book. The final illustration verges on creepy though. I think it's the semi-realistic style on the child contrasting with the spoon, it looks a bit horror story. 3 stars

I really liked the idea for this story, but I ended up finding both the text and the illustrations tedious and uninspiring.
