The sea witch was so so so good it’s honestly in my top 5 for the year so far bc it was fun, witty, adventurous, and sexy, and this was just trying to be that but fell so flat for me. The romance felt too much like insta-love the sex, while I enjoyed the idea of a sub MMC, was okay but not too spicy imo, the plot was there but idk maybe it was the character depth that didn’t do it for me.

Loved this book- I’m not usually a fan of sleeping beauty retellings. But I am really liking how Kenney makes the villain likable. Not just turning the villain into a good guy- he’s still sorta shady. But he’s a sad boy who just wants a little love. It was a fun ride. Spicy and easy to read with an engaging story.

The world has been driven asunder and is in danger of disappearing into the Void. When the King and Queen refuse to help the Maleficent One in an attempt to stop the encroachment, instead putting their faith in the Goddess, the Maleficent One curses their daughter that before her 25th birthday she will fall into a hundred year sleep.
It's been almost 25 years since the Princess was cursed, and it's Aura's job as her bodyguard to keep her from falling into the clutches of the Void King. But when his Knights surround them, Aura uses the little bit of Fae magic she has at her disposal to glamor herself to appear as the Princess and allows herself to be kidnapped instead.
Malec, the Void King and Maleficent One, senses that something is not right with the Princess, but time is running out and he needs her to complete the magic to hold back the Void for good, even if it means she must fall to the curse he placed 25 years ago.
++++
I really enjoyed this reimagining of Sleeping Beauty. The story was compelling, the characters fleshed out well, and man was the spice spicy.
If you are in the mood for erotic romantasy I would actually recommend this one.

Beautiful and a little dark. Rebecca does an amazing job writing a new story while weaving in the classic fairytale details. I could not love Malec more and if Aura threatened one more man with bodily harm I might swoon.

Enjoyed it fairly well. Nice world-building with the religion, culture, and power. Interesting twist to the fairytale.
MMC is also kind of a loser (totally a loser), but well, I kinda like that for myself. It is also well-written, though I'd say some of the transitions between scenes are not the best for me.

I love all of Rebecca's books, but this possibly could be my new favorite. I was sucked into the story and loved it all. Highly recommend to everyone!
I've seen Maleficent one time and this evoked those vague memories. I find I enjoy Kenney's style very much. It's not perfect, but I always like what she does with her characters. The women are not shrinking violet virgins and the men are enamored of them in that perfect way where they just adore every flawed aspect of their lady. She crafts a new world with each book and that is really not an easy task. This one had an interesting solution to a problem that I see somewhat frequently in romantasy (a "void" that overtakes civilization). Religion featured in both cultures depicted in the book and I can always do without that, haha.
