I used to really like the Little House books when I was in elementary school, and I thought his would be a good really short book to help me meet my goodreads goal. And wow, their lives really really really really really sucked. Their house burned down, one of their children died, they got diphtheria, they were always in debt, none of the wheat EVER grew, and I wouldn't make it a day in those awful dresses the women had to wear. Somehow the book isn't terribly depressing, which is good since I guess it's really for kids to read. and BONUS: it's not White Fang.

This read more like a rough draft than an actual novel. Very short. Repeated a lot of the same material that was in These Happy Golden Years.
Makes me wonder what the history of this novel is. Published after her death?? Found stuffed in a drawer somewhere??
Definitely something to Google later...

don’t ask me to take an ar test on this one boys
