I don't know why it took me so long to finish this trilogy. I read the first two books and loved them. Then sat on the third one for far too long. It was by far the best.
Russian folklore, morally ambiguous characters, a splash of history, action, magic, romance, family, politics, fantastic word building.
I enjoyed this series and will miss the characters.

My gut reaction to this book was initially dislike. The first few chapters was a lot of hurt and a lot of grief, and a lot of that snake of a priest triumphing. I wanted to put it down.

But I didnt, and I can say now that even though I did not like it as much as the first two, it was still a pretty good ending. Also, chapter 17 was great and I am so happy they went there and let Vasya keep so much of herself.

I liked this trilogy although I found the first in the series the strongest. I loved the mythology and history in this series.

And thus is concluded this beautiful mystical trilogy. Did I cry? Yes, I did. A LOT. Luckily, by the end, they were happy tears.
I mean I cried when Solovey died. But when he got resurrected at the end? I had to stop reading for a while because I was bawling my eyes out.

This author is automatically on my auto-buy list because no one can write an atmosphere like she does. I am in awe of how well she gets the Russian spirit, mimicking to a tea all those old fairytales I have read as a kid, the cadence, the language, everything.

Loved that last bit in the end about the real-life events that inspired the books. Please, please read this in winter.
