Tuto knihu mohu vřele doporučit všem čtenářům, kteří mají rádi příběhy s přesahem a ponaučením.

Mind you, there are thousands of clever men who would give anything for the chance to come in and take over from me, but I don't want that sort of person. I don't want a grown-up person at all. A grownup won't listen to me, he won't learn. He will try to do things his own way and not mine. So I have to have a child.

I was so obsessed with the movie when it first came out, so I don't know why I've never picked up the book until now. But I had so much fun with this one, I kept laughing out loud!

I absolutely love old kids books, because they weren't afraid to tell wildly crazy stories in order to scare children so they wouldn't face the same endings as the bad children in the books.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory made a hero of sweet, poor Charlie and villanised the other children. He made an example of them, to showcase the dangers of gluttony, greed, chewing gum, excessive TV watching, and overall brattiness. That these bad characteristics will be dealt with and punished severely.

The movie was exceptionally made but I loved the book more, if I'm being honest. It's simply such a classic.

I can't find the exact copy on Storygraph but the one that I picked up was illustrated by Joseph Schindelman and I absolutely loved them!! Very very cool.

So I know you look at me giving this book 3 stars and wonder how I could give such a classic book only 3 stars. Let me explain. This story is one of the most amazing, magical, imaginative stories of all time, in my opinion. I feel like everyone knows the story, and even though this probably isn't gonna make any sense, but we don't realize that someone literally came up with this story. Haha, like I feel like we think Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is just a commonly known story, but someone's imagination made this story. Okay, I know I'm sounding stupid writing that, but it makes sense in my head. LOL.

Basically, I'm trying to say that this story is beyond amazing. It's so magical. The story itself deserves 5 stars. The reason I gave it 3 is because I've grown up with this story my whole life. I knew everything that was going to happen. Because I've seen both movie adaptions, I could picture the characters. I could picture the way everything looked and the colors of everything. For me, seeing movies before reading the books is such a problem. Most people like reading the books first, but they don't necessarily struggle with reading the books. I do. I don't enjoy reading something I can't have any imagination with to make it my own, if that makes sense.

The book itself DESERVES five stars. But because I'm that reader that I described above, my reading experience of it wasn't as good as it should have been. If I had read this as a child, it would probably have been my favorite book. It's such an amazing, magical story. The mind behind all the different kind of candies and the characters are all so unique. And Willy Wonka is hilarious. The book really is quite amazing and makes you truly want good things for Charlie. And is Grandpa Joe not the most lovable character ever? I love what he does for Charlie, and how even though he couldn't get out of his bed for 20 years, he did for his grandson. A book that deserves to be a classic - but knowing the story already really did make the book that deserves 5 stars, a let down for me.
