This is a second read. Our whole family read the series in a flurry as the books came out, and I remember it fondly. Great characters, excellent world-building, exploration of humanity and society and the values that help everyone thrive. Fascinating in light of the current administration that is so like Quill.

This one starts like The Hunger Games - when kids are chosen for “the Purge.” When Alex arrives on the bus with the other Unwanteds, he finds a magical world he could never have even dreamed of… A bit too fantastical for me with not-very-well-developed characters, but I’ve got kids in mind who would love this one. (3.5/5 for me)
